Postmarks

If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information

USS YARNALL earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 7 Battle Stars, the WWII Victory Medal and the Korean Service Medal w/ 2 Battle stars during her Naval career.

USS YARNALL DD-541 was at Tokyo Bay September 2 1945 for the Japanese surrender

NAMESAKE - Lieutenant John Joliffe Yarnall, USN (1786 - 1815)
Veteran of War of 1812, Battle of Lake Erie (1813) and the Second Barbary War (1815).

Two ships of the US Navy have been named in his honor; USS Yarnall DD-143 and USS Yarnall DD-541.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Earl Groves.
