Other Information

USS WILLIAM C. LAWE earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal w/ two battle stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Aviation Metalsmith Third Class (AM3c) William C. Lawe, USN (26 January 1910 – 4 June 1942).
        AM3c Lawe, who was serving as a gunner in a Grumman TBF-1 (Avenger) torpedo plane, was killed in the Battle of Midway. AM3c Lawe posthumously received the Purple Heart Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Nancy Lee Lawe.
