This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each name of the ship (for example, Bushnell AG-32 / Sumner AGS-5 are different names for the same ship so there should be one set of pages for Bushnell and one set for Sumner). Covers should be presented in chronological order (or as best as can be determined).
Since a ship may have many covers, they may be split among many pages so it doesn't take forever for the pages to load. Each page link should be accompanied by a date range for covers on that page.
Postmarks
This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each name and/or commissioning period. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

NAMESAKE - Chief Petty Officer Richard Thomas Snyder, USCG (25 November 1922 - 25 November 1989)
Snyder enlisted in the US Coast Guard in Cleveland, OH, on 29 December 1941. Snyder was assigned to Landing Support Tank, or LST, Flotilla 8 on 11 February 1943. He was subsequently assigned to USS LST-168 and by 1 February 1944, he attained the rank of Boatswain’s Mate First Class.
On April 19, 1944, Snyder transferred to another Naval unit and on 27 May 1944, as a member of Navy Beach Party Number Six, Snyder and crew landed the U.S. Army’s 41st Infantry Division on the island of Biak, Papua New Guinea. Members of a landing party were subject to severe hand grenade bombardment from Japanese troops in two caves camouflaged in the cliff near the beach. Snyder procured a weapon and hand grenades and by tossing the grenades into the caves and subsequently killing four Japanese troops, Snyder eliminated the enemy resistance. By his initiative and resourceful fighting qualities under fire, he the defeated enemy resistance and made possible the expeditious landing of vital material without casualty.
For gallantry in action during the amphibious assault, Snyder was awarded the Silver Star. In his award citation, it was noted that, “Snyder’s forceful initiative, cool courage and unwavering devotion to duty in the face of grave danger were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.”.
CPO Snyder earned the Silver Star medal, the Coast Guard Good Conduct medal, the American Campaign medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 1 Silver and 1 Bronze star, the World War II Victory medal and the Philippine Liberation medal during his Coast Guard career.
CPO Snyder separated from the service on 13 September 1945.
