Ship Name and Designation History

  1. USCGC POINT DORAN WPB-82375
  2. Commissioned 1 June 1970 - Decommissioned 2 March 2001

  3. BRP ABRAHAM CAMPO PC-396 (Philippine Naval Service)
  4. Transferred to the Philippines 2001

Still listed as active in 2024

Conflicting History Data

There is disagreement on the decommissioning date and the name assigned by the Philippines Navy.

  1. The U.S. Coast Guard History page for Point Duran says: "Decommissioned: 22 March 2000"
Wikipedia says: "Decommissioned 2 March 2001"

An article in the Seattle Times newspaper Coast Guard says goodbye to friend by Christine Clarridge and dated March 3, 2001 says:
"The last in its class of 82-foot patrol cutters based in the Puget Sound, the Point Doran was retired in a ceremony at Pier 36 yesterday..."
    This supports the Wikipedia date.

  2. Wikipedia says the ship was renamed to "BRP ABRAHAM CAMPO (PC-396)" and commissioned in the Philippines Navy on "22 March 2001".
Harpoon Databases says the ship was renamed to "BRP Emilio Aguinaldo PG-140" and that the transfer took place on "22 Mar 2000".

However, the Wikipedia page for "BRP General Emilio Aguinaldo (PG-140)" says the ship was built by the Philippines at their
Cavite Naval Ship Yard and launched on 23 June 1984.
Based on this, it would appear that the Harpoon Databases data for Point Duran is incorrect.

Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Covers should be presented in chronological order (or as best as can be determined).

Since a ship may have many covers, they may be split among many pages so it doesn't take forever for the pages to load. Each page link should be accompanied by a date range for covers on that page.

Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

>>> If you have a better example for any of the postmarks, please feel free to replace the existing example.
