HISTORICAL NOTE
Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Edenton was built in the early 1940's and was originally a outlying field for MCAS Cherry Point NC. At the end of WWII, the Air Station was placed in caretaker status on 1 July 1946 and was deactivated on 1 August 1946. The field was still used by MCAS Cherry Point for training until the early 1950's. On 2 August 1955, the US Navy reestablished the airfield as Naval Auxiliary Air Station Edenton and it was disestablished on 31 December 1958. The airbase was redesignated as Marine Corps Outlying Field (MCOF) Edenton on 9 January 1959 and was deactivated on 31 March 1959. The airfield would later become the Northeastern Regional Airport, Edenton, NC.
