Other Information
USS NECHES earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the American Defense Service Medal w/ Fleet clasp, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 1 Battle star, and the World War II Victory Medal during her Naval career.
NAMESAKE - Named for a river in Texas.
Three ships of the US Navy have borne the name NECHES - USS Neches AO-5, USS Neches AO-47 and USNS Neches T-AO-183.
The ships sponsor was Miss Helen Griffin, daughter of Rear Admiral Robert Griffin.
