Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each name of the ship (for example, Bushnell AG-32 / Sumner AGS-5 are different names for the same ship so there should be one set of pages for Bushnell and one set for Sumner). Covers should be presented in chronological order (or as best as can be determined).

Since a ship may have many covers, they may be split among many pages so it doesn't take forever for the pages to load. Each page link should be accompanied by a date range for covers on that page.

Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each name and/or commissioning period. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

>>> If you have a better example for any of the postmarks, please feel free to replace the existing example.

Additional Naming History Sources

U. S. Coast Guard - Small Cutters and Patrol Boats - 1915 to 2012 - Page 32 has the following entry:
"WPB-95315 went to Haiti as La Crete a Pierrot on 1 Aug 1955 upon her completion."
This would seem to indicate that the ship was built and launched as WPB-95315 but never commissioned in the US Coast Guard before transferring to Haiti. It is unknown if it ever had a "Cape" name assigned (even administratively) while being built.

USCG Patrol Craft Built Since WWII has the following entry:
"WPB-95315   La Crete a Pierrot   USCG Yard   [built] 1 Aug 1955   to Haiti 1956"

Jane's Fighting Ships 1960-61 has the following entry for LA CRETE A PIERROT GC-8:
     LA CRETE A PIERROT (ex-U.S.C.G. 95315)
     VERTIERES
Former United States Coast Guard cutters, steel type. Built at U.S. Coast Guard Yard,
Curtiss Bay, Maryland. La Crete a Pierrot was acquired on 26 Feb. 1956. Vertieres was
transferred to Haiti at Norfolk, Virginia, in Oct. 1956 and commissioned in Dec. 1956.
Pennant Nos. GC 8 and GC 9, respectively.
