THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Historical Note: This cachet is "time-specific" for the period October 1940 - March 1941 when Mussolini attacked Greece and the Greeks drove him out. The capture of Greece took place in April 1941 when the Germans arrived. In three weeks they conquered mainland Greece and by the end of May 1941 the last British troops withdrew from the island of Crete. With this cover being used, well after the date of what the cachet depicts, renders it a mute point.

HUNTER LIGGETT earned the following awards during her Naval career - Combat Action Ribbon - American Defense Service Medal (with Fleet clasp) - American Campaign Medal - Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (w/ 4 Battle stars) - World War II Victory Medal.
NAMESAKE - Lieutenant General Hunter Liggett, USA (March 21 1857 - December 30 1935).
Hunter Liggett was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, on March 21, 1857, and died in San Francisco on December 30, 1935. His forty-two years of military service spanned the period from Indian campaigns to trench warfare in World War I.
His medals included these: The Distinguished Service Medal; the decorations of the Legion of Honor, from France; the Order of Leopold, from Belgium; and the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, from Italy.
