This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Postmarks
This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

USS GWIN earned the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 4 battle stars and the World War II Victory Medal during her Naval career.
USS GWIN DM-33 was at Tokyo Bay 2 September 1945 for the Japanese surrender.
NAMESAKE - Lieutenant Commander William Gwin, USN (6 December 1832 – 3 January 1863).
Lt Cmdr. Gwin was an officer in The United States Navy during The American Civil War. One of the most promising officers in the nation, with extensive command and combat experience.
The ships sponsor was Mrs. Jesse W. Tarbill, second cousin and sponsor of the previous USS Gwin DD-433, Mrs. Jesse T. Lippincott.
Four ships of the US Navy have been named in his honor - USS Gwin TB-16, USS Gwin DD-71, USS Gwin DD-433 and USS Gwin DM-33.
