NAMESAKE - A genus of between 48-55 species of evergreen conifers in the family Pinaceae.

The ships sponsor was Miss Harriet B. Mason.

Two buoy tenders of the United States Coast Guard have borne the name FIR - USCGC Fir WLM-212 and USCGC Fir WLB-213
