Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

DAMON M. CUMMINGS earned 1 Battle Star (WWII)
* Okinawa operation, April 1945

NAMESAKE - Damon M. Cummings USN (January 30 1910 - November 13 1942)
Cummings graduated from the Naval Academy 4 June 1931. He served in USS NORTHAMPTON CA-26 and USS MONAGHAN DD-354 and had staff duty at Submarine Base, New London, and with Destroyer Squadron 3. Serving on the staff of Commander, South Pacific Force, Lieutenant Commander Cummings was killed in action while on board USS SAN FRANCISCO CA-38 on the night of November 12-13 1942. For his heroism and determination during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal he was posthumously awarded The Navy Cross
