Naval Covers

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information

USS CURRIER earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 2 Battle stars, the European-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal w/ 1 Campaign star, the United Nations Korean Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Lieutenant Roger Noon Currier, USN (20 April 1913 - 13 November 1942)
Currier, born in Portland, OR, graduated from the US Naval Academy 3 June 1937. He served on USS Salt Lake City CA-25 and was assigned to the staff of Admiral Norman Scott as Communications Officer on 20 October 1942. Embarked in USS Atlanta CL-51 he was killed in action during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. He shared posthumously in the Presidential Unit Citation awarded to USS Atlanta and also received the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart Medal.

The ship sponsor was Mrs. R. N. Currier, widow of Lieutenant Currier.
