Other Information

ALLEN M. SUMNER earned 2 battle stars for WWII, 1 for Korea, and 2 for Vietnam

NAMESAKE - Captain Allen Melancthon Sumner, USMC (October 1 1882 - July 19 1918)
Captain Sumner received the Croix de Guerre with Gilt Star as well as 3 Silver Star Citations for his gallantry during World War I. He was killed in action at Vierzy, near Soissons, France on July 19 1918.

The US Navy has named two ships in his honor; USS Sumner DD-333 and USS Allen M. Sumner DD-692.
