Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information
NAMESAKE - Rear Admiral William Mervine, USN (March 14 1791 – September 15 1868).
His career included service in the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War (1846-48) and the American Civil War.
There have been two ships of the US Navy named MERVINE - USS Mervine DD-322 and USS Mervine DD-489
