Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

NAMESAKE - Coxswain Walter Benjamin Cobb USN (September 8 1919 - August 9 1942)
Cobb was assigned to USS MUGFORD DD-389 and was aboard her during the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7 1941. Cobb was killed in action while manning the number four gun aboard USS RALPH TALBOT DD-390 during The Battle of Savo Island. For his actions and gallantry under fire, he was posthumously awarded The Silver Star
