Conflicting History Data
Wikipedia says:
"On 17 November 1969, Point Banks was turned over to the Republic of Vietnam Navy
as part of the Vietnamization of the war effort and recommissioned as HQ-719."
The U.S. Coast Guard History page says:
the ship "was assigned to CG Squadron One, Division 11, Vietnam, from July 1965 to May 1970."
It also says: "Transferred to South Vietnam as HQ 719 on 26 May 1970."
The May 1970 service end date conflicts with Wikipedia's November 1969 but they both agree the ship was transferred to South Vietnam as HQ-719.
The Vietnamese Wikipedia page for the Republic of Vietnam Navy says:
Point Banks was renamed to Ngo Van Quyen HQ-718.
It says that U.S. Coast Guard cutter Point Lomas was renamed to Van Dien HQ-719.
However, the U.S. Wikipedia
page for the list of ships of the Republic of Vietnam Navy says the opposite:
RVNS Ngô Văn Quyền (HQ-718), acquired on 26 May 1970, former name: USCGC Point Lomas (WPB-82321)
fate: Captured by North Vietnam, 1975. Scrapped Ho Chi Minh City, 1987
RVNS Vân Điền (HQ-719), acquired on 26 May 1970, former name: USCGC Point Banks (WPB-82327)
fate: Scrapped.
This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.
