This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.
Built 1903 by Townsend and Downing, Shooter's Island, NY Listed in Lloyd's Register of Yachts 1905 as "ATLANTIC" but changed to "ATLANTIC II" by the 1909 edition Official Number: 200334 Acquired U.S. Navy June 10 1917 Lloyd's Register of Yachts shows "U.S. Navy" as the owner in the 1920 and 1921 editions By 1922, owners listed as: "James C. Brady & Nicholas F. Brady" In 1929, owner listed as "Gerard B. Lambert" of New York and remained as such until at least 1939 Stationed at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut where she was used for cadet training Decommissioned 27 October 1947 Sold 10 September 1948 (owner unknown) Lloyd's Register of Yachts 1949 has no entry for ATLANTIC Towed in 1953 to Wildwood, New Jersey where it was kept as a floating tea room, museum, and tourist attraction Sank in 1963 during a storm but was refloated in 1970 Deteriorated and sank at the dock in Norfolk, Virginia Broken up 30 January 1982 at Newport News Boat Harbor, VA |
This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each name of the ship (for example, Bushnell AG-32 / Sumner AGS-5 are different names for the same ship so there should be one set of pages for Bushnell and one set for Sumner). Postmarks
This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each name and/or commissioning period. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.
