Other Information

USS TOLOVANA earned the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the China Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 1 Battle star, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal w/ Asia clasp, the National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), the Korean Service Medal w/ 2 Campaign stars, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (3 awards), the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 13 Campaign stars, the Philippines Liberation Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A small river in central Alaska. It rises in the mountains just to the west of Fairbanks and flows into the Tanana River, one of the primary tributaries of the Yukon River.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Richard M. Bissell, Jr.
