Other Information

USS TAPPAHANNOCK AO-43 earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the China Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (w/ 9 Campaign stars), the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (with Asia clasp), the National Defense Service Medal (w/ 1 bronze star), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal (w/ 7 Campaign stars), and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - The cognate name for Virginia's Rappahannock River in Essex County, Va., and the name of an Indian village founded on its southern bank in about 1680.
