image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

"In 1941, I served on board USS GRIDLEY (DD-380). On November 28, 1941, we left Pearl Harbor in a task force with USS ENTERPRISE (CV-6) [and] returned to Pearl and entered port December 8th. . . . GRIDLEY was awarded 10 battle stars for her service in World War II.
NAMESAKE - Captain Charles Vernon Gridley, USN (November 24 1844 – May 25 1898) was an officer in the United States Navy during the Civil War and the Spanish-American War.
Four ships of the US Navy have been named in his honor; USS Gridley DD-92, USS Gridley DD-380, USS Gridley DLG-21 and USS Gridley DDG-101.
