Conflicting History Data

There is one minor disagreement on the date of transfer to South Vietnam and a larger disagreement on the Vietnamese name and hull number.

1. Regarding the date of transfer to South Vietnam:

Wikipedia says: "On 17 November 1969, Point Banks was turned over to the Republic of Vietnam Navy
as part of the Vietnamization of the war effort and recommissioned as HQ-719."

The U.S. Coast Guard history page for POINT BANKS says: "Transferred to South Vietnam as HQ 719 on 26 May 1970."
The May 1970 service end date conflicts with Wikipedia's November 1969 but they both agree the ship was transferred to South Vietnam as HQ-719.

The Story of the Republic of Vietnam Navy Evacuation blog article by Dinh Manh Hung (Đinh Mạnh Hùng) dated January 26, 2018 says:
"The cutters numbered HQ700 to HQ707 were transferred to the Republic of Vietnam Navy in 1969, from HQ708 to HQ725 were transferred in 1970."
This supports the Coast Guard date.


2. Regarding the ship's Vietnamese name and hull number:

The U.S. Wikipedia pages for POINT LOMAS and POINT BANKS say the ships were renamed to HQ-718 and HQ-719 respectively but do not give names.
The U.S. Wikipedia page for Point-class cutters of the Republic of Vietnam Navy connects the names as:

This version is supported by the Navypedia website and the Harpoon Databases page for "WPB-82301 Point class"
(which is cited as a source by the List of ships of the Republic of Vietnam Navy U.S. Wikipedia page).
It is also supported by the U.S. Coast Guard history pages for POINT LOMAS and POINT BANKS.

However, the Vietnamese Wikipedia page for the Republic of Vietnam Navy says the opposite:

I will go with the U.S. Coast Guard version until more evidence is found to support the Vietnamese Wikipedia version.

 

Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Covers should be presented in chronological order (or as best as can be determined).

Since a ship may have many covers, they may be split among many pages so it doesn't take forever for the pages to load. Each page link should be accompanied by a date range for covers on that page.

Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.
