This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.

Transport
Built 1901 by Reiherstieg Schiffswerfte und Maschinenfabrik (Reiherstieg Shipyards and Machine Factory), Hamburg, Germany
Launched on 21 December 1901 and completed on 19 April 1902


1. PRINZ EITEL FRIEDRICH (Passenger-Cargo Ship)
Owned and operated by Hamburg America Line (HAPAG)


2. SS OTSEGO (Transport)
Seized by the US Government in New York in 1917 after the U.S. declared war on Germany
Turned over to the United States Shipping Board (USSB) and renamed.
During WWI took US munitions and materiél to Europe, and carried some troops
Acquired by U.S. Navy February 7 1919


3. USS OSTEGO ID-1628
Commissioned February 7 1919 - Decommissioned September 19 1919
Transferred back to USSB when decommissioned and laid up


4. SS OTSEGO (Cargo Ship)
Purchased by canned food company Libby, McNeill & Libby on 29 January 1924
Acquired by the War Department December 1941 for Army Transport Service


5. USAT OSTEGO
Commissioned by the U.S. Army in 1941
Transferred back to the War Shipping Administration December 1944


6. URAL (Soviet Union Naval Service)
Transferred to the Soviet Union January 1945 and renamed

Possibly scrapped by the Soviet Union in 1955

Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.
