This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.

Freighter Built in 1918 - Launched 28 August 1918 Acquired by the Navy 13 September 1918 USS WEST HUMHAW ID 3718 Commissioned 16 September 1918 - Decommissioned 27 January 1919 Struck from the Navy list and returned to the United States Shipping Board 27 January 1919 Sold in 1928/29 to the American-West African Line During WWII, armed and manned by US Navy Armed Guards as part of the Allied Convoy system Torpedoed and sunk 8 November 1942 by the German submarine U-161 in the South Atlantic The entire crew of 54 survived.

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.
