Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. Other Information

USS MALOY earned the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal w/ 1 battle star, the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal w/ 1 bronze star and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Chief Watertender Thomas Joel Maloy, USN (September 26 1906 - November 13 1942)
On November 13 1942, in action off Guadalcanal, Maloy’s ship, Light Cruiser USS ATLANTA CL-51 was torpedoed and went dead in the water. After ordering his crew to abandon number one fireroom, Maloy remained at his station struggling to stem the rapid flooding of the area. Compelled to leave the compartment, he proceeded to the forward engineroom to investigate conditions there. He perished in this heroic attempt to save the ship. He was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for his heroism.
