Other Information
USS POCOMOKE earned the American Defense Service Medal w/ Fleet clasp, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/2 Battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the Philippines Liberation Medal during her Naval career.
NAMESAKE - A town in southeast Maryland. The first two Pocomokes were named for Pocomoke City, Md. The third was named for a Sound on the east side of the Chesapeake Bay, east of Tangier Island.
The ships sponsor was Mrs. Max O. Truitt.
Three ships of the US Navy have borne the name POCOMOKE - USS Pocomoke SP-265, USS Pocomoke SP-571 and USS Pocomoke AV-9.
