USS IOWA earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 9 Battle Stars for WWII, and the Korean Service Medal with 2 Battle Stars for her Korea service.

USS IOWA BB-61 was at Tokyo Bay on September 2 1945 for the Japanese surrender.

NAMESAKE - Named for The State of Iowa.

The ships sponsor is Mrs. Ilo Browne Wallace (10 March 1888 – 22 February 1981).
Mrs. Wallace was the wife of Henry A. Wallace, the 33rd U.S Vice President and later Secretary of Commerce. She was the Second Lady of the United States from 1941 until 1945.
