USS ARGONAUT SSN-475 earned the following awards during her Naval career - Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 1 Battle star, the World War II Victory Medal; the Navy Occupation Service Medal with EUROPE clasp and the National Defense Service Medal w/ one star.

NAMESAKE - The argonauts (genus Argonauta, the only extant genus in the family Argonautidae) are a group of pelagic octopuses.

Two ships of the US Navy have borne the name ARGONAUT - USS Argonaut APS-1 and USS Argonaut SSN-475.

The ships sponsor is Mrs. Allan R. McCann.
