Other Information

USS NEW ORLEANS earned the Navy Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy China Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal w/ Fleet Clasp, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 17 Battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the Navy World War II Occupation Medal w/ ASIA Clasp during her Naval career.

USS NEW ORLEANS was at Pearl Harbor December 7 1941 at The Pearl Harbor Navy Yard

NAMESAKE - Named for the city of New Orleans, LA.

The ships sponsor was Miss Cora S. Jahncke, daughter of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Ernest L Jahncke.

Five ships of the US Navy have borne the name NEW ORLEANS - USS New Orleans (1815 Ship-of-the-Line, never completed), USS New Orleans CL-22 ), USS New Orleans CA-32, USS New Orleans LPH-11 and USS New Orleans LPD-18.

One ship of the Confederate Navy was named NEW ORLEANS - CSS New Orleans (1861 Floating Battery).
