Other Information

USS ALBANY earned the Navy Unit Citation (2 awards), the Navy E Ribbon (3 awards), the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Medal w/ Europe Clasp and the National Defense Service Medal (2 awards) during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A city in New York located on the west bank of the Hudson River about 145 miles north of New York City. It is the state capital and the seat of government for Albany County.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Elizabeth F. Pinckney.

Six ships of the US Navy have born the name ALBANY - USS Albany (1846 22-gun Sloop-of-War), USS Albany (1869 14-gun Screw Sloop-of-War), USS Albany CL-23, USS Albany (CA-72)(renamed USS Pittsburgh), USS Albany CA-123 and USS Albany SSN-753
