USS JEFFERS earned 7 Battle Stars for her WWII service.

USS JEFFERS DMS-27 was at Tokyo Bay September 2 1945 for the Japanese surrender.

NAMESAKE - Commodore William Nicholson Jeffers, USN (6 October 1824 – 23 July 1883)
Jeffers was a U.S. Navy Officer of the 19th century. He took part in combat operations during The Mexican-American War and The American Civil War. During the 1870s and early 1880s he served as Chief of the Bureau of Ordnance.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Lucie Jeffers Lyons great- granddaughter of Commodore Jeffers.
