Other Information
USS BURDO earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Medal (with Asia clasp) and the National Defense Service Medal during her Naval career.
NAMESAKE - Private First Class Ronald Allen Burdo, USMC (24 July 1920 - 7 August 1942).
PFC Burdo was killed in action 7 August 1942 at Gavutu, Solomon Islands during the Battle of Guadalcanal.
The ships sponsor was Mrs Ida Botts, mother of PFC Roland Burdo, USMC.
