This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Covers should be presented in chronological order (or as best as can be determined).
Since a ship may have many covers, they may be split among many pages so it doesn't take forever for the pages to load. Each page link should be accompanied by a date range for covers on that page.

Postmarks
This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information
On August 18 1990, REID fired the first shots of Operation Desert Shield when she fired across the bow of an Iraqi tanker who had refused to change course when ordered
NAMESAKE - Samuel Chester Reid, USN (August 24 1783 – January 28 1861)
Reid entered the Navy in 1794. He served in CONSTELLATION with Commodore Thomas Truxtun and in 1803 became master of the brig MERCHANT. During the War of 1812 he commanded the privateer GENERAL ARMSTRONG and at Fayal, Azores, in 1814 engaged gunboats from British men-of-war en route to Jamaica and New Orleans, Louisiana. Although eventually forced to scuttle and abandon his ship, Reid's action delayed the British squadron and aided General Jackson's defense of New Orleans.
He was appointed master in the Navy in 1844 and died at New York January 28 1861
Four ships of the US Navy have been named in his honor; USS REID Destroyer No. 21, USS REID DD-292, USS REID DD-369 and USS REID FFG-30.
The ships sponsor is Mrs. William C. Abhau, the great-great granddaughter of Sailing Master Chester Reid.
