Sidney Newton Bremer, born June 18, 1916, was originally from Iowa.  He enlisted in the Navy in Oct. 1934 and was assigned to TEXAS on 16 Jan 1935. He became a yeoman, and may have helped out as mail clerk.  He probably joined USCS in 1936, member #1234, and is listed in the 1937 Yearbook. Later, he was also an ANCS member.  In 1936, Bremer worked with [[Cachet_Maker_Edward_E_Bryan_ | Edward E. Bryan]] on several covers, with cancels from TEXAS and DALLAS.  There may be others.  Bremer remained on the crew of TEXAS until Feb. 1941 when he transferred to WASHINGTON, and during the war served on several other ships.  He left the Navy in 1946, settled in South Carolina, and by the 1950's was an executive for an insurance company. Returning to college, in 1959 he graduated from law school from the University of Georgia.  Bremer wrote several books in the 1960's and 70's (as Dr. Sidney N. Bremer).  He passed away at Columbia, SC in Sept. 1980 at the age of 64.
