USS RICHMOND earned the Yangtze Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal w/ Fleet Clasp, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 3 Battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the Navy WWII Occupation Medal w/ Japan Clasp during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the city of Richmond, Virginia.

The ships sponsor was Miss Elizabeth S. Scott.

Three ships of the US Navy have borne the name RICHMOND - USS Richmond (1798 Brig), USS Richmond (1860 Wooden Steam Sloop-of-War) and USS Richmond CL-9.
