The Pearl Harbor Study Group (PHSG) was organized in 1986, spearheaded by Larry Wendell. At the time, Larry lived at Lynnwood, Washington, which generated a number of members in the Puget Sound area. Not long after that, however, he relocated to Iowa, and it was here that most of the PHSG newsletters were produced. The first newsletter was published in February 1987, and continued on a semi-regular basis through June 1998. The first editor was James Klinger, but after only two issues he stepped down, and Larry Wendell took over and continued as editor through 1997. The final two issues in 1998 were edited by Phil Bronner. Unofficially, this also marks the end of the study group itself. The PHSG sponsored printed covers related to Pearl Harbor anniversaries. A number of early cachet designs were recycled later. Covers were normally issued with the autograph of the artist, or the organizer of both, a nice touch. The PHSG logo is often on the reverse. Note: All of the Harbor Study Group newsletters have been scanned and are included in the USCS Reference Collection.
