Other Information

USS BARANOF earned the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - An island in the western part of the Alexander Archipelago off the southeastern coast of Alaska. It is named for Aleksandr Andreevich Baranov (a more contemporary translation) (1747-1819), a fur trader and the first governor of Russian Alaska.
