Naval Covers

Other Information

NAMESAKE - Admiral Robert Bostwick Carney, USN (March 26 1895 - June 25 1990).
Carney served in the US Navy from 1916-1955.
During his time in the Navy, Carney served in many positions capped off by his appointment as the Chief of Naval Operations (1953-55).

Adm. Carney's awards include the Navy Cross, the Distinguished Service Medal with three Gold Stars, the Legion of Merit with Combat "V", the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V", the World War I Victory Medal with Destroyer Clasp, the American Defense Service Medal with Fleet Clasp, the American Area Campaign Medal, the European African-Middle Eastern Area Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal with nine Battle Stars, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars. Admiral Carney also held decorations from twelve foreign countries, many including highest military recognition.

The ships sponsor is Betty Taussig, daughter of Admiral Carney.
