This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.

Naval Covers

Postmarks

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information

USS ARGONAUT SS-475 earned the following awards during her Naval career - Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 1 Battle star, the World War II Victory Medal; the Navy Occupation Service Medal with EUROPE clasp and the National Defense Service Medal w/ one star.

NAMESAKE - The argonauts (genus Argonauta, the only extant genus in the family Argonautidae) are a group of pelagic octopuses.

Two ships of the US Navy have borne the name ARGONAUT - USS Argonaut APS-1 and USS Argonaut SS-475.

The ships sponsor is Mrs. Allan R. McCann.
