From S1/c William Robert Chappell, who survived Pearl Harbor. He was then assigned to ALYWIN and in Sept. 1942 transferred to the destroyer DEHAVEN. Chappell was KIA on board DEHAVEN on 1 Feb. 1943 when the ship was sunk. He was born c1922 in Paducah, Kentucky, but moved to Norwood, Ohio with family. The cover is addressed to Margaret Jane ("Mickey") Gossin (1924-1997). William and Margaret were married in Reno, NV in August 1942, just before he reported to DEHAVEN.

Ens. Vernon Osterberg (1914-1973),from Seattle, was first assigned to ARIZONA in 1939. He survived the attack, was briefly reassigned to TENNESSEE, and later in the war was on the escort carrier CARD.

Note: Although the Type 3z is cataloged as scarcity B, no other example has actually been seen or recorded (including several advanced collectors). Probably should be reclassified with an R rating
