Naval Covers
This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the

should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark
has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest
known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

USS PORTSMOUTH earned the American Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the World War II Occupation Medal w/ Europe (Germany) Clasp during her Naval career.
NAMESAKE - Named for the city of Portsmouth, NH.
The ships sponsors were Mrs. Marian M. Dale and Mrs. Sarah B. Leigh.
Four ships of the US Navy have borne the name PORTSMOUTH - USS Portsmouth (1798, 24-gun ship), USS Portsmouth (1843, Sloop-of-War), USS Portsmouth CL-102, and USS Portsmouth SSN-707.
