USS WORDEN earned the Combat Action Ribbon (2 awards), the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon (3 awards), the Navy Battle "E" Ribbon (3 awards), the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (3 awards), the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 9 Campaign stars, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/ 2 Campaign stars, the Humanitarian Service Medal (2 awards), the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (8 awards), the Navy & Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam Civil Action 1st Class Unit Citation Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia) and the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait) during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Rear Admiral John Lorimer Worden, USN (12 March 1818 – 19 October 1897).
Worden was appointed midshipman in the Navy on 10 January 1834 and retired on 23 December 1886, a career lasting 52 years.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. William R. Smedberg III.

Four ships of the US Navy were named in his honor - USS Worden DD-16, USS Worden DD-288, USS Worden DD-352 and USS Worden CG-18.
