If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information

USS SPRINGFIELD earned the Navy Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the China Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 2 Battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the World War II Occupation Medal w/ Asia Clasp, the National Defense Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Named for the city of Springfield, IL and Springfield MA

Four ships of the US Navy have borne the name SPRINGFIELD - USS Springfield (Stern wheel Steamboat 1863), USS Springfield (Steamboat 1918/1919), USS Springfield CG-7
and USS Springfield SSN-761

The ships co-sponsors were Miss Norma McCurley of Springfield, IL and Mrs. Angelina Bertera of Springfield, MA.
