Postmarks

Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information

USS ROGERS earned five battle stars for service in the Korean Conflict and three battle stars for Vietnam

NAMESAKE - Three brothers, Jack Ellis, Jr., Charles Ethbert, and Edwin Keith Rogers were lost in action on November 30 1942 when an enemy torpedo ripped away the bow of the heavy cruiser USS NEW ORLEANS CA-32 during the Battle of Tassafaronga in the Solomon Islands.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. J. E. Rogers, Sr.
