NAMESAKE - Purser Samuel Hambleton (1777–1851)
Hambleton was an Officer in the United States Navy who served with distinction during the War of 1812 .

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Nannie Hambleton Martin, great grandniece of Samuel Hambleton.
