Other Information

USS ROGERS earned the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the WWII Occupation Medal, the Korean Service Medal w/ 5 Campaign stars, the Vietnam Service Medal w/ 3 Campaign stars, the United Nations (UN) Korean Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam (RVN) Campaign Medal and the Korean War Service Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Three brothers, Jack Ellis, Jr., Charles Ethbert, and Edwin Keith Rogers were lost in action on 30 November 1942 when an enemy torpedo ripped away the bow of the heavy cruiser USS New Orleans CA-32 during the Battle of Tassafaronga in the Solomon Islands.

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Jack Ellis Rogers, Sr., mother of the three brothers.
