Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information

USS TACOMA earned the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Cuban Pacification Medal, the Nicaraguan Campaign Medal, the Mexican Service Medal and the World War I Victory Medal w/ Escort Clasp during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A city and port on the coast of Puget Sound in the west central part of the state of Washington. Tacoma is the seat of Pierce County.

The ships sponsor was Miss Julia M. Harris.

Four ships of the US Navy have borne the name TACOMA - USS Tacoma (1893 Harbor Tugboat), USS Tacoma CL-20, USS Tacoma PF-3 and USS Tacoma PG-92.
