[Note: Although the U.S. Coast Guard may use "WPB-82304" in its documentation, the identification painted
on the ship's hull would have been "CG 82304" (as seen in standard photos of the class for that time period).]


2. USCGC POINT LEAGUE WPB-82304
Named POINT LEAGUE January 1964 - Decommissioned 16 May 1969


3. RVNS LE VAN NGA HQ-701 (South Vietnamese Naval Service) (alt: LÊ VĂN NGÀ)
Transferred to South Vietnam March 16 1970
Effectively decommissioned on April 30, 1975 with the fall of South Vietnam

Presumed scrapped by Vietnam by early 1980s

 

Conflicting History Data

There is disagreement as to the name and hull number given to the ship by the Vietnamese Navy.

The U.S. Wikipedia pages for POINT GARNET and POINT LEAGUE say the following:
     POINT GARNET --> LÊ VĂN NGÀ HQ-701
     POINT LEAGUE --> LÊ PHƯỚC ĐỨC HQ-700

However, the Vietnamese Wikipedia page for Navy of the Republic of Vietnam says the opposite:
     POINT GARNET --> LÊ PHƯỚC ĐỨC HQ-700
     POINT LEAGUE --> LÊ VĂN NGÀ HQ-701

It is difficult to choose between the U.S. Wikipedia version and the Vietnamese Wikipedia version.
On the one hand, I would expect (hope) the Vietnamese Wikipedia to be more accurate as their authors
should have better access to documentation related to the Vietnamese Navy.
However, any cachets made for the ship will likely use U.S. / English language sources and if we list a
different name than what the cachet shows, it may be confusing.
In the end, I chose to go with the Vietnamese Wikipedia version in the hope of accuracy.

 

Naval Covers

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. There should be a separate set of pages for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Covers should be presented in chronological order (or as best as can be determined).

Since a ship may have many covers, they may be split among many pages so it doesn't take forever for the pages to load. Each page link should be accompanied by a date range for covers on that page.

Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.
