Postmarks
This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.
A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an
image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN
THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

WAXSAW earned the American Campaign Medal - World War II Victory Medal - National Defense Service Medal during her Naval career.
NAMESAKE - An Indian tribe that lived during the 17th century in an area which now constitutes Lancaster County, S.C., and Union and Mecklenburg Counties, N.C. The Waxsaws, more commonly referred to as Waxhaws, were famous for their custom of artificially flattening the heads of their children during infancy.
Two ships of the US Navy have been named WAXSAW - USS Waxsaw (Monitor 1865) and USS Waxsaw AN-91.
