Tench Class Submarine Ordered as TOMATATE Renamed 24 September 1942 Keel Laid 22 May 1944 - Launched 18 August 1944 USS TRUTTA SS-421 Commissioned 16 November 1944 - Decommissioned 2 February 1946 Recommissioned 1 March 1951 - Decommissioned 4 May 1952 for GUPPY IIA modernization Recommissioned 2 January 1953 - Decommissioned 1 July 1972 TCG CERBE S-340 (Turkish Naval Service) Transferred to the Republic of Turkey 1 July 1972 and renamed Decommissioned by Turkish Navy 23 July 1999 Sold for scrap, however her sail is preserved as a memorial to Turkish submariners.

This section lists active links to the pages displaying covers associated with the ship. USS TRUTTA earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 2 Battle Stars and the World War II Victory Medal during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - A variety of trout, distinguished from the typical trout by its small black spots and its smaller and fewer scales

NAMESAKE - (CERBE) The Turkish name of the island of Djerba

The ships sponsor was Mrs. Edward C. Magdeburger.
