USS BARNETT earned the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the American Defense Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal w/ 6 Battle stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 1 Battle star, the World War II Victory Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal w/ Asia Clasp during her Naval career.

NAMESAKE - Major General George Barnett, USMC (9 December 1859 — 27 April 1930).
Major General Barnett was the 12th Commandant of the United States Marine Corps from 1914-20. Barnett was a veteran of the Spanish–American War, the Philippine–American War, the Banana Wars and Second Occupation of Cuba.
